Leading People & Organizations - Executive MBA Course
With Professor Raina Brands
To achieve success in any organisation, leaders must inspire commitment from others, elicit contributions toward common goals, coordinate both within and across teams, and proactively and effectively adapt to change. In this course we will draw from theory, empirical research, and cases to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to meet these core leadership challenges. Leading individuals, groups, and organisations effectively is the key to managerial excellence. Leaders need to assemble the skills, talents, and resources of individuals and groups into combinations that best solve organisational problems. The successful execution of these goals requires leaders to be able to diagnose problems, make effective decisions, influence and motivate others, manage diversity, tap into the human and social capital of organisational members, optimise teams, and drive organisational change. However, systematic challenges arise because people are psychologically primed to make bad decisions, to resist influence and persuasion, to oppose change, and to experience conflict when working in groups.
From your own leadership experience, you know that managerial excellence is not as straightforward as popular books and TV pundits promise. Interpersonal interactions are complex, and this only becomes truer as you move up the organisational ladder.
In this course, we will break through that complexity to identify reliable psychological principles for effective management by drawing on scientific research and data.
